May bank holiday 2025 - Green Castle Woods, Llansteffan and Pembroke

Bluebells Green Castle WoodCastle Green woods

We made the most of the good weather this bank holiday visiting, Green Castle Woods in Carmarthen and having a picnic overlooking the countryside, before walking amongst the blue bells and campion in the woods. This is a great place to stop on the way to or from The Cwtch as only a small detour, later in the year the woods are full of snowdrops and car parking is free. There are designated paths but it's uphill and the ground is unevLlansteffan Castle

The following day we decided it was about time we went to Llansteffan castle, as all our other visits have been to the amazing beach there. The car park is free and there was a fast food shed and a coffee shop. Again this walk was uphill, obviously necessary for the days when it was there to protect the area. Lambs were in the field with their mums near to the castle, which stopped us focussing on the effort as fairly unfit people walking uphill. It was worth the walk for the views from the castle and enhanced by climbing to the top of a turret  and for the campion, cow parsley, bluebells, wild garlic and buttercups that lined the paths

Monday, we visited Pembroke to see another Castle and yet another picnic (picnic items are available for use in the Cwtch) this time on a bench by the lake. We walked one side of the lake watching the many swans and other birds and then down Main Street which has many independent shops
